Veteran's Advocacy

Pensions and Wellbeing

Tweed Heads and Coolangatta RSL Sub Branch has a long history, going back to the years after World War 1, of providing support to Veterans of all services and War Widows. This support is not restricted to current RSL Members.

We provide services to ex-service and serving personnel, widows and widowers, allied veterans and partners, and family members.

The Sub Branch has a dedicated team of employees and volunteers assisting Veterans with pensions and quality of life support.

Pensions Advocacy service is provided by experienced and accredited Level 3 and Level 2 pension advocates with support staff, who can:

  • advise on entitlements available, prepare and lodge claims and dealing with related communication; and

  • assist with reconsiderations and appeals to the Veterans' Review Board (VRB) and advise on appeals to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

Pension advocates provide services Tuesday to Thursday on an appointment basis, which can be made by calling the office on (07) 5536 1164, Mon - Fri from 09:00am to 12:00pm.

At other times the Advocates can be contacted by email or leave a message on (07) 5536 1164 and an advocate will get back to you.

Wellbeing Advocacy volunteers seek to assist veterans in a number of ways:

  • Hospital, Nursing Home and Home visits (including providing care packs for those without basic essentials)

  • Coffee and a Chat get together in the ANZAC Room on Thursday mornings at 10:00. We may be able to assist with transport if required

  • Homeless Support which may include emergency accommodation, food and fuel vouchers depending on circumstances

  • Telephone welfare checks - periodically phoning veterans to check on their current status and see if support may be required
